These days cosmetic treatments are no longer reserved for the wealthy and celebrities. Today anyone can waltz into a clinic and get cosmetic injections… as it should be! We believe everyone deserves to feel beautiful in their skin. If you’re new to injectables you might be confused about the different services that are provided and what exactly they do. You’ll come across terms such as anti-wrinkle injections, cosmetic filler and botox and you might be asking yourself, what’s the difference?
Well, we’re here to help.

What is cosmetic filler?
Cosmetic filler is made from hyaluronic acid (HA), a naturally occurring substance in our bodies. It’s extremely safe and used to provide volume in certain areas of the face. Fillers like Restylane, Juvederm, Boletero and calcium-based fillers like Radiesse are used to plump sagging areas of concern. This is perfect for creating voluminous lips, prominent cheeks, face balancing and even a defined jawline. Dermal fillers can correct static wrinkles around the mouth and along the cheeks due to a loss of collagen and elasticity in the skin. Fillers provide more long-term results but do carry more side effects including bruising, rashes, swelling and in very rare cases blindness.
What is botox?
Botox is a muscle relaxant made from the purified form of the bacteria botulinum toxin. It works by relaxing the muscles in your face that cause movement which are known as expression lines. When you raise your eyebrows or frown or you smile often, these repeated movements create creasing lines within your skin which eventually lead to wrinkles.
There are a number of products that can be used as great wrinkle preventatives particularly around frown lines, crows feet and marionette lines – these include Dysport, Xeomin and of course Botox. However, it’s best to start early to prevent deep-set lines. If you have a gummy smile, a lip flip is a perfect alternative to lip filler. The Botox will relax your upper lip, so that when you smile it will not tuck in under itself and reveal your gums, giving the effect of fuller lips. Typically, anti-wrinkle lasts 3 to 4 months.
