Winter skincare tips for dry skin

With the recent changes in temperature here on the Sunshine Coast, ( Yes, I even had Frost on my car windscreen this morning!) we are all susceptible to some rather unwanted impacts on our skin’s condition.   The cold change brings dry conditions causing moisture in your skin to evaporate at a faster rate than the warmer months.  This leaves your skin dehydrated, feeling tight, dry and flaky.  So if you are finding your mates are hiding for shelter from the snow storm if you brush your hand against your leg (actual true story eeek!) then the following winter skin tips may just well be your saving grace this chilly season.

Dry Skin
  1. It may sound obvious, but MOISTURISE!!!  A good quality thick moisturiser will be life changing.  Having dry skin can wreak havoc on trying to apply make up, leaving foundation a cakey mess, yuk!  To avoid such horrors apply a good thick, moisturiser prior to make up application.  I recommend Aspect Dr skin care range, in particular the Resveratrol Moisturising cream, so thick and luxurious,  which can be found in clinic.  Ask me for a sample at your next appointment!
  2. Apply Moisturiser before bed to legs, feet, hands and any other really dry areas, to avoid waking looking like a crocodile.  COSMEDIX offer a great moisturising face mask that can be worn overnight to wake up with a dewy glow! Also found here, in clinic.
  3. Apply moisturiser immediately after a shower or bath to help lock in extra moisture.
  4. Avoid hot showers/baths.  In this cold weather it is sooooo tempting to turn up the heat in the shower, but the drying effects of a super hot shower on your skin are too harsh to ignore.  Try keeping the shower warm rather than hot to help keep the essential oils in your skin intact.
  5. Increase your intake of healthy fats.  With a direct correlation between gut and skin health, increasing your daily intake of healthy fats may help with dry skin.  Smashed avo for daaaaaays!  On the flip side, Alcohol and caffeine are diuretics that can cause dehydration, so moderate your intake and up the H20!
  6. Book in for a Microdermabrasion to get rid of the dead skin cells on your face, this, in turn, helps the expensive thick moisturiser you have bought to work more effectively, being able to penetrate to the deeper layers. Then add on a moisturising mask for that extra hydration.

Voila! No more snow storms yay!!!
